In some cases, say, the grunge or low brow style, there might very well be something more going on and the extreme HDR effect may be a necessary element in sending the message. The key is whether or not there is something deeper going on in an image than just the eye-candy of the HDR processing. Hmmm, just reconsidered the last statement.

As to the extreme stuff, I also find that I even like some of this now and then-however, I don't think that it will stand the test of time. I have started trying to use it more and more (and I'd love to have some effective way to get a quality image with HDR in-camera).
